The central government has appointed V Narayanan as the new chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and Secretary of the Department of Space. He will take over from the current head of ISRO S Somnath on January 14. V Narayanan has four decades of experience working in the Department of Space. He is also an expert in rocket and spacecraft propulsion. Let us know some special things related to the new head of ISRO.
V Narayanan joined ISRO in 1984. He served in various positions in the Department of Space. Initially, for about four and a half years, he worked in the Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC) in the field of sounding rockets and solid propulsion of ASLV and Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV).
He did MTech in Cryogenic Engineering and PhD in Aerospace Engineering from IIT Kharagpur in 1989. He has been awarded a silver medal for securing the first rank in MTech. After this he joined the cryogenic propulsion field at the Liquid Propulsion Systems Center (LPSC). As the director of Liquid Propulsion System Center Valiyamala, he has made a significant contribution in developing the CE20 cryogenic engine for GSLV MK III.
Along with this, during his tenure, LPSC has built 183 liquid propulsion systems and control power plants for various missions of ISRO. He has also been the project director of the C25 cryogenic project of GSLV MK Il vehicle.
Big role in the success of Chandrayaan 3
When Chandrayaan 2’s Vikram lander crashed, the mission failure was also investigated under the leadership of V Narayanan. He suggested solutions to make Chandrayaan 3 successful and India got great success.
V Narayanan is the most senior in ISRO
V Narayanan is one of the senior directors in ISRO. He is also the chairman of the Project Management Council-Space Transportation System (PMC-STS). It decides about all launch vehicle projects and programs. He is the chairman of the national level Human Rated Certification Board (HRCB) for Gaganyaan. Along with being the ISRO chief, he will also take over as the Chairman of the Space Commission.
