Inter-college squash competition: Yash Sonwani of Pragati College won the Boys’ and Archita Banerjee of Govt. D B Girls’ College won the girls competition

Raipur : The inter-college squash competition, organised by Pragati College under the auspices of Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur, was inaugurated on Friday February 13 , 2026 by Principal Dr. Soumya Nayyar.

Principal Dr. Soumya Nayyar emphasised the importance of sports and games in human life. She stressed on the importance of competition in human life, stating that life without competition is dull. Therefore, competition is crucial.

One should enter any competition with full heart and enthusiasm, regardless of the outcome. Participating in a game is more important than winning or losing, the Principal said .

The inter-college squash competition was organised by Pragati College in the squash hall at the Indoor Stadium, Budhapara. Students from various colleges participated in this competition. Through this competition, the Girl’s and Boy’s squash teams for Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University were formed for the All India University Squash Competition.

The Girl’s and Boy’s squash teams of Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University will participate in the All India University Squash Competition to be held at Somaiya University, Mumbai (Maharashtra) from March 10, to March 14, 2026 .

Yash Sonwani of Pragati College and Archita Banerjee of Government DB Girls College secured first place in the Boys’ and Girls’ categories with their excellent performances. In the Boys’ semi-final of this competition, Yash Sonwani of Pragati College defeated Atul Luniya 11-03 and 11-05. In the second semi-final match, Vidik of Vipra College defeated Kunal Paul of Mahant College 11-07 and 11-08.

The Boys’ final match was played between Yash Sonwani of Pragati College and Vidik of Vipra College, in which Yash Sonwani defeated Vipra College by 11-06, 09-11, and 11-08.

The Girls’ semifinal match was played between Rakhi Sahu of Pragati College and Nidhi Dongre of Government Sanskrit College, in which Rakhi Sahu of Pragati College won by 11-09 and 11-08.

The Girls’ final match was played between Achirta Banerjee of Government D.B. Girls’ College and Rakhi Sahu of Pragati College, in which Achirta Banerjee of Government DB Girls’ College defeated Rakhi Sahu of Pragati College by 11-08 and 11-09.

Following this, the Principal of Pragati College awarded the winners and runners-up with trophies and certificates.

Rahul Sahu and his team were the judges for this competition.

Present at the event were sports officers from various colleges, including Dr. Vishnu Srivastava, Dr. Karmishtha Shambharkar, Dr. Rinku Tiwari, and Shiv Pandey.
