India-US BTA: Meeting of PM Modi and Vice President Vance, these issues including bilateral trade agreement were discussed
US Vice President JD Vance met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday April 21, 2025 . During this, both the leaders welcomed the significant progress in the ongoing talks on the Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) between India and America. In this agreement, the focus is on the well-being of the people of both the countries.
What issues were discussed
The two leaders appreciated the efforts to increase cooperation in energy, defense, strategic technology and other areas. They also discussed regional and global issues and emphasized on dialogue and diplomacy to resolve these issues. Vice President Vance is accompanied by his wife Usha Vance, their children and senior officials of the US administration.
PM Modi recalls his visit to Washington
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recalled his visit to Washington DC in January and said that the discussions with President Donald Trump have become a roadmap for taking India-US cooperation forward. It talked about using the strength of America’s ‘Make America Great Again’ (MAGA) and India’s ‘Developed India 2047’ vision. He welcomed the progress in the trade agreement. Appreciated the ever-increasing cooperation in the energy, defense, and technology sectors. Both emphasized that only dialogue and diplomacy can solve the problems of the world.
Vice President Vance’s visit to India
This is Vance’s first visit to India, which is of four days. Apart from Delhi, he will also visit Jaipur and Agra. This visit is taking place at a time when America has imposed retaliatory tariffs on many countries, including India. America has imposed limited tariffs at the rate of 10% for 90 days, so that there is an opportunity for negotiations. In this connection, talks of a trade agreement between India and America have intensified.
Prime Minister Modi extended his best wishes
Prime Minister Modi extended his best wishes to the Vice President, his wife and children on their visit to India. He also sent his best wishes to President Trump and said that he is looking forward to his visit to India.
