The fourth day’s play of the second Test match between India and England has ended. India declared their second innings at 427 for six and set a target of 608 runs in front of the hosts, taking a big lead of 607 runs. The Indian bowlers gave the team a good start in the second innings and gave three blows to England. England have lost the wickets of Jack Crawley, Ben Duckett and Joe Root. By the end of the day’s play, England have scored 72 for three in the second innings and now have to score 536 more runs. At the time of stumps, Ollie Pope was at the crease with 24 and Harry Brook with 15 runs. Akash Deep took two wickets for India, while Mohammad Siraj got one wicket.

England did not have a good start while chasing the big target and lost Crawley early. Crawley could not even open the account. After this, Akash Deep bowled Ben Duckett who returned to the pavilion after scoring 25 runs. Akash then bowled Joe Root who was out after scoring six runs. In this way, India took three wickets of England. India will now have to take seven wickets to win on the fifth and final day, while England will have to score 536 runs if they want to win.

With the help of captain Shubman Gill’s century and half-centuries from KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja, India declared the second innings at 427 for six. India thus took a lead of 607 runs and set a target of 608 runs for England to win. Gill performed brilliantly for India and scored 161 runs, while Ravindra Jadeja returned unbeaten after scoring 69 runs. For England, Josh Tang and Shoaib Bashir took two wickets each, while Brydon Carse and Joe Root got one wicket each.

India started playing on the fourth day at 64 for one wicket. India got the first setback of the day in the form of Karun Nair who was dismissed after scoring 26 runs. Rahul then took the innings forward with Gill and scored a half-century, but Tongue bowled Rahul and gave India the third blow. Rahul returned to the pavilion after scoring 55 runs. After this, vice-captain Rishabh Pant came and he started playing fast with Gill. Pant along with Gill shared a 110-run partnership for the fourth wicket which was broken by Shoaib Bashir by dismissing Pant. Pant was dismissed after scoring 65 runs.

After Pant was dismissed, Gill continued his brilliant performance and shared a partnership with Ravindra Jadeja. Gill scored a century and maintained his excellent rhythm. Gill had scored a double century in the first innings. He added 175 runs for the fifth wicket with Jadeja and put India in a strong position. Gill lost his wicket to Bashir’s ball and returned to the pavilion as the fifth batsman. Gill hit 13 fours and eight sixes in his innings of 162 balls. After this Nitish Reddy was dismissed after scoring one run. Apart from Jadeja, Washington Sundar remained unbeaten after scoring 12 runs.
