Important decisions of the Union Cabinet: Employment Linked Incentive Scheme approved, New Sports Policy-2025 also gets green signal

The Modi government has taken a big step to promote employment, industry, research and sports sector. The cabinet approved the Employment Linked Incentive Scheme of Rs 1.07 lakh crore, Research-Development Scheme of Rs 1 lakh crore, New Sports Policy 2025 and Highway Project of Rs 1,853 crore. He also said that the government’s goal is to increase employment, strengthen the manufacturing sector and make India a sports superpower.
The Modi government has taken a big step to promote employment and industry in the country. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the Union Cabinet has approved the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme of Rs 1.07 lakh crore. This scheme will focus especially on the manufacturing sector. The government believes that these schemes will increase employment opportunities in the country, strengthen the manufacturing sector and also promote research.
The Union Minister further said that this scheme will have two parts. The first part will be for those who are starting employment for the first time. At the same time, the second part will be to support companies providing continuous employment. Apart from this, the government has also approved Rs 1,853 crore for Research Development and Innovation Scheme of Rs 1 lakh crore, National Sports Policy 2025 and four-laning of Paramakudi-Ramanathapuram National Highway.
Employment Linked Incentive Scheme
The government on Tuesday July 1, 2025 approved the Employment Linked Incentive Scheme to promote employment generation, skill enhancement and social security. A provision of ₹1.07 lakh crore has been made under this scheme, which will have a special focus on the manufacturing sector.
This decision was taken in the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav gave information about this. The scheme aims to create more than 3.5 crore new employment opportunities in the country in two years. Along with this, first-time employees will also be given incentives under the scheme.
Incentives of up to ₹3,000 per month for each new employee will be given for two years. This incentive will be given to employers who hire employees whose salary is up to Rs 1 lakh per month. This incentive for the manufacturing sector will continue for the third and fourth year as well.
1 lakh crore to promote research and infrastructure
The government has taken major decisions to promote research, innovation and infrastructure in the country. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav informed on Tuesday that the Union Cabinet has approved the Research Development and Innovation (RDI) scheme, under which research will be encouraged in the country. A budget of Rs 1 lakh crore has been fixed for this scheme.
Ashwini Vaishnav said that before preparing the scheme of research, development and innovation, Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) studied the successful research models of many countries of the world. These include models of countries like America, Israel, Singapore and Germany. Learning from the strong system from research to product manufacturing in these countries, this new scheme has been prepared in India. The government believes that this will not only promote research in the country, but will also strengthen new industries through innovation.
Approval of important road project in Tamil Nadu
Along with this, the Union Minister informed that the project to widen the 46.7 km long National Highway between Ramanathapuram to Paramakudi in Tamil Nadu has also got the approval of the Cabinet. The highway from Madurai to Paramakudi is already four-lane. Now the part from Paramakudi to Ramanathapuram will also be converted into four lanes. Further, DPR (Detail Project Report) is being prepared for the road which goes to Dhanushkodi in the sea part. This road project was a long-standing demand of the people of the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu.
Approval of new Sports Policy 2025
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the Union Cabinet on Tuesday July 1, 2025 approved a comprehensive Khelo India Policy, 2025. Which aims to make India one of the top five sports nations by 2047. Giving details about the decisions taken by the Cabinet, he said that in the last 11 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has focused on sports, especially efforts to bring forward talent in rural areas. He said the new policy is part of this effort. The minister said the second main objective is to make sports a “people’s movement”.
