Jammu: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has dismissed CT/GD Munir Ahmed, a jawan of the 41st battalion, from service with immediate effect due to serious violation of security standards. Ahmed is accused of marrying a Pakistani girl and giving her shelter in India even after her visa had expired, information of which he hid from the department. Munir Ahmed had performed Nikaah through a video call on the phone.

Termed a matter of national security

An internal investigation conducted by the CRPF found that Munir Ahmed not only kept the details of his Nikaah confidential, but also did not inform about his wife’s long stay in India. Officials say that this conduct is a violation of service rules and can pose a serious threat to the country’s national security.

CRPF took the matter very seriously and acted without delay and dismissed him with immediate effect. CRPF clarified that any personnel working in the force is expected to follow the terms of service honestly, especially when the matter is related to national security. Officials also indicated that a ‘zero tolerance’ policy is being adopted in such cases.

Nikah through a video call on May 24

CRPF spokesperson Deputy Inspector General (DIG) M Dhinakaran said, “Munir’s actions were found to be in violation of service conduct and detrimental to national security.” Ahmed’s Nikah with Minal Khan came to light after India asked Pakistani citizens to leave the country as part of diplomatic measures taken in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack. The two had tied the knot through a video call on May 24 last year. The CRPF investigation found that the jawan had not informed the concerned authorities about his Nikah and her stay in India.

Relief at the last moment
It is worth noting that Minal Khan was to be deported from India. She came to India in March 2025 on a short-term visa, which expired on March 22. After the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, the central government directed all Pakistani citizens to leave India, under which Minal was asked to leave the country by April 29. Meanwhile, she had already applied to the Home Ministry for visa extension, which is still pending. When Minal left for the Attari-Wagah border in a deportation bus, her lawyer Ankur Sharma told her on the phone that she had got a stay from the court. After this, the process of her return to Pakistan was stopped.
