Raipur: Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said on WEdnesday October 1, 2025 that the elderly are our guides and bearers of invaluable culture. Caring for the elderly is a shared responsibility of both the government and society. The central and state governments are continuously strengthening schemes dedicated to pension, health, social security, and a dignified life for senior citizens. The Chief Minister was addressing the state-level event on International Day of Older Persons as the chief guest today at Krishi Mandapam located on the Indira Gandhi Agricultural University campus in the capital Raipur.

The Chief Minister honored the elderly by presenting them shawls and coconuts at the event. On this occasion, he announced the construction of fully equipped old age homes on a PPP model in Sian Gudi, four major cities of the state: Raipur, Bilaspur, Korba, and Durg, for special care of the elderly, and a service center in the capital, Raipur, for repairing assistive devices for the disabled. Mr. Sai flagged off 25 de-addiction chariots to spread awareness across the state under the Drug Free India Campaign. Chhattisgarhi folk songs and dances were presented at the event, and a health check-up camp was also organized.

Chief Minister Sai said that Senior Citizens’ Day is an opportunity to remind us of our responsibilities. My guru taught me that serving parents is worship of God. I have always followed the values and ideals of my guru. CM Sai said that we all should not forget the truth that tomorrow we will all be in the same condition as our elders are today. Chief Minister Sai and the guests appealed to the public to respect the elderly and help them access the benefits of government schemes, making their lives more secure, dignified, and prosperous.

The Chief Minister stated that over 1.4 million senior citizens are benefiting from pension schemes in the state. More than 800,000 senior citizens have received free medical care under the Ayushman Bharat and Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Health Assistance Schemes. More than 50,000 senior citizens have benefited from the Chief Minister’s Pilgrimage Scheme and the Shri Ramlala Darshan Scheme. Social Welfare Minister Laxmi Rajwade stated that 1,049 senior citizens are being cared for in 35 old-age homes in the state, and palliative care homes are operating in six districts. The departmental helpline has resolved the problems of over 54,000 senior citizens so far.

Minister Tankaram Verma, MP Brijmohan Agrawal, MLAs Rajesh Munat, Motilal Sahu, Indra Kumar Sahu, Anuj Sharma, Chhattisgarh Disabled Finance Development Corporation Chairman Lokesh Kavadia, along with numerous public representatives, dignitaries, and senior administrative officials were present on the occasion.

Tourism Saathi Initiative: MoU between Raipur District Administration and EaseMyTrip
At the event, an MoU was signed between EaseMyTrip and the District Administration for the Tourism Saathi initiative. The Chief Minister congratulated the District Administration team for this unique initiative and said that it will open up new employment opportunities for youth and promote tourism. Under the Tourism Saathi initiative, youth will be trained as tour guides at ITI Saddu. The training program will include 50 youth per batch, and the training will be completed in three months.
