Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Namibia on the fifth and final leg of his foreign tour. PM Modi, who arrived in Namibia on the last leg of his five-nation tour, was warmly welcomed by President Ndaitw at the State House. He was given a guard of honour as well as a 21-gun salute. This is PM Modi’s first visit to Namibia and the third visit of an Indian Prime Minister. Prime Minister Modi also addressed the Namibian Parliament here. In his address, PM Modi spoke on many topics ranging from democracy, constitution to Cricket World Cup and Project Cheetah. Describing Namibia as a valuable and reliable partner country in Africa, he stressed on shared development.
PM Modi expressed gratitude
While addressing the Namibian Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi first expressed gratitude. He said that it is a great privilege for me to address this dignified House, the temple of democracy. I express my gratitude to you for giving me this honour. I stand before you as a representative of the mother of democracy and I bring with me heartfelt greetings from the 1.4 billion people of India.
Those who have nothing have the guarantee of the Constitution
In his address, PM Narendra Modi also mentioned the recent election results of Namibia. Addressing the MPs, he said that a few months ago, you celebrated a historic moment. Namibia elected its first woman president. We understand and share your pride and happiness because in India, we also proudly call you Madam President.
Addressing the Parliament of Namibia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that it is the Constitution of India due to which the daughter of a poor tribal family is today the President of the world’s largest democracy. It is the power of the Constitution due to which a person born in a poor family like me has got the opportunity to become the Prime Minister for the third consecutive time. Those who have nothing have the guarantee of the Constitution.
Indians stood proudly with Namibia in the freedom struggle
Addressing the Parliament of Namibia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the people of India stood proudly with Namibia in your freedom struggle. Even before our independence, India had raised the issue of South-West Africa in the United Nations. The UN peacekeeping force in Namibia was led by an Indian Lieutenant General, Dewan Prem Chand. India is proud to stand with you, not just in words but also in deeds.
Friendship with Namibia is growing stronger with time
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his address that I am extremely honoured to receive Namibia’s highest civilian award as a symbol of friendship between our people. Like the strong and beautiful plants of Namibia, our friendship has stood the test of time. He said that like your national plant, Welwitschia mirabilis, it grows even stronger with time and age.
Focus on realising the possibilities of a shared future along with the ties of the past
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that we not only value our ties of the past, but are also focusing on realising the possibilities of our shared future. We attach great importance to working together on Namibia’s Vision 2030. At the centre of our partnership are our people. More than 1700 Namibians have benefited from scholarships and capacity building programmes in India.
Gratitude to Namibia for Project Cheetah
Addressing the Parliament of Namibia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked Namibia for Project Cheetah. He said that you helped us to re-establish cheetahs in our country, we are very grateful for this gift of yours. I had the privilege of releasing them in Kuno National Park. They have sent a message for you that everything is fine. They are very happy and have adapted well to their new home. Their numbers have also increased. They are enjoying their time in India.
PM Modi also spoke on the future vision of India-Namibia relations
In his address, Prime Minister Modi also spoke on the future vision of India-Namibia relations. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that let us be guided by the national bird of Namibia, the African Fish Eagle. May he continue to teach us to fly high together, look at the horizon and boldly reach opportunities.
We want cooperation, not competition
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that we want cooperation, not competition. Our goal is to build together. Not to take, but to grow together. Our development partnership in Africa is over $12 billion, but its real value lies in shared development and shared purpose. We believe that Africa should not be just a source of raw materials. Africa must be a leader in value creation and sustainable development. That is why we fully support Africa’s Agenda 2063 for industrialization. He called for, “Let us build a future that is defined not by power, but by partnership. Not by dominance, but by dialogue. Not by exclusion, but by equity. This will be the spirit of our shared vision… May our children inherit not only the freedom we fought for, but also the future we will build together.”

During this, he also congratulated Namibia for co-hosting the 2027 Cricket World Cup. He said that I wish Namibia great success in co-hosting the 2027 Cricket World Cup.
