Starlink: Elon Musk’s company Starlink has received a license from the Telecom Ministry of India. With this, satellite-based high-speed internet service will soon be delivered to remote areas of the country. Earlier, Bharti Airtel’s OneWeb and Reliance Jio have been approved to provide satellite-based services in India. According to a CNBCtv18 report, Starlink has now become the third company in this sequence.

Trial spectrum will be issued to the company

Starlink has also been given Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite (GMPCS) permit by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Now in the coming time, trial spectrum will also be issued to the company. After spectrum allotment, the company will have to submit all compliances including security conditions to the government.

However, before starting satellite telecom services in India, the company will also have to get approval from the space regulator Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe). The company has already given all the details for this, but has not yet received approval.

After the recommendations of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, now DoT has to finalize the pricing and related rules of spectrum allotment. TRAI has talked about imposing 4 percent AGR on companies like Starlink for satellite communication. Apart from this, TRAI has also recommended spectrum allotment in an administrative manner instead of auction so that other satellite service providers like Starlink can get spectrum quickly and their network can start as soon as possible.

Starlink operation started in Bangladesh

Recently Starlink services started in Bangladesh, for which you will have to pay about 4,200 taka (Rs 2,990) every month and 47,000 taka (about Rs 33,000) once to buy the device. Starlink is special because its services continue even after the mobile network stops working.

This is because it does not depend on mobile towers installed on the ground for internet, but Starlink provides internet service using its satellite network in the lowest orbit of the Earth i.e. Low Earth Orbit. More than 7,000 satellites of Starlink SpaceX have been deployed in LEO, which is at an altitude of about 550 KM from the Earth, which is planned to be increased to 12,000 satellites in the future.
