Compensation will be paid to the dependents of the deceased in the accident that took place at Sipat station

A tragic accident occurred at the NTPC power plant in Sipat, Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh, on Wednesday August 6, 2025 , leaving five contract workers injured. The incident took place in Unit 5 of the plant when an industrial trolley reportedly collapsed, trapping workers underneath -Photo Credit-NTPC

During the overhauling of Unit 5 of Sipat station, 5 contract workers employed under M/s Gorakhpur Construction Private Limited were injured when the platform collapsed while they were working on the platform. Out of which 3 injured were admitted to the hospital of Sipat station, where they were discharged from the hospital after treatment. The injured Pratap Singh is being treated at Apollo Hospital. The entire expenditure incurred in this treatment will be borne by Sipat station. While the injured Shyam Kumar was sent to CIMS hospital, where he was declared dead by the CIMS authority.

In a meeting held in the presence of the district administration and public representatives, it was decided that the dependents of the deceased will be given Rs. 5 lakh each as compensation by Sipat and the contractor and all the facilities available under ESI will be provided. Apart from this, his wife will be given employment in unskilled or semi-skilled category on contract. An amount of Rs. 50,000/- in cash was immediately given by the contractor to the family of the deceased for his last rites.
