In a press conference, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said that China has always opposed tariff abuse and our stand on this is clear and consistent.

China has reacted sharply after US President Donald Trump ordered an additional 25% tariff on India for purchasing Russian oil. China has strongly criticized the US, calling this move an abuse of trade measures.

In a press conference on Thursday August 7, 2025 , Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said that China has always opposed the misuse of tariffs and our stand on this is clear and permanent. This statement has come when President Trump has announced to impose an additional 25 percent duty on goods coming from India by signing an Executive Order.

Let us tell you that Donald Trump, while announcing a total of 50% tariff on India, has said that India is very close to China in terms of buying oil from Russia and now America will move towards secondary sanctions to deal with this. In a press conference at the White House, Trump said that as you know, we have imposed a 50 percent tariff on India for Russian oil. They are very close to China in buying oil from Russia. The earlier 25% tariff on India has come into effect from August 7, while the new 25% tariff will come into effect after 21 days i.e. from August 27.

When he was asked in the press conference whether he can remove the tariff from India if an agreement is reached with Russia-Ukraine, Trump replied that for now they (India) will pay 50% tax, what will happen next will be seen.

When Trump was asked that China and Turkey are also buying oil from Russia, then why such a big action only on India? On this Trump said that it has been only 8 hours since the tariff was imposed on India, you will see a lot in the future, there will be a flood of secondary sanctions.
