New Delhi : Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Friday June 6 , 2025 has discussed in detail with Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the construction of the multipurpose Bodhghat Dam Project and Indravati-Mahanadi Interlinking Project as a national project.

He said that Bastar rigion has been Naxal-affected for a long time, due to which the region has lagged behind in the development of irrigation facilities, to overcome the problem of irrigation facilities in the region and promote all-round development, the Chhattisgarh government is working on the multipurpose Bodhghat Dam Project and Indravati-Mahanadi Link Project.

The Chief Minister also said that the Bodhghat Multipurpose Dam Project will prove to be a decisive project for the all-round development of the Bastar region. This project has been proposed on the Indravati river for a long time. Indravati is a major tributary of the Godavari river. This project is also mentioned along with other schemes in the 1980 award of the Godavari Water Dispute Tribunal.

Other projects mentioned in this award have been implemented by other states, but due to being in a remote area and the Naxal problem, this project could not be started.

The pace of Bastar’s development will double

The multipurpose Bodhghat Dam project will double the pace of Bastar’s development along with increasing the scope of irrigation facilities in the region . The project will ensure electricity production of 125 MW, additional employment like 4824 tons of annual fish production, expansion of irrigation in 3,78,475 hectares including Kharif and Rabi and availability of 49 M.G.M. drinking water. The Indravati-Mahanadi interlinking project will provide irrigation facility to more than 3,00,000 hectares of land including 50,000 hectares of land in Kanker district. Both projects will be an important step towards making Bastar developed and self-reliant.

What is the multipurpose Bodhghat Dam Project?

The multipurpose Bodhghat Dam Project is proposed on the Indravati River, a major tributary of the Godavari River. The Indravati River flows for a total distance of 264 km in the state. This project is proposed at a distance of about 8 km from Barsoor village of Geedam Tehsil and about 100 km from Jagdalpur city in Dantewada district.

Features of the project

The estimated cost of both the projects is Rs 49000 crore. In which the cost of Indravati-Mahanadi Link Project is about 20 thousand crore rupees and the cost of multipurpose Bodhghat Dam Project is about 29 thousand crore rupees. Which also includes hydropower electromechanical work, civil work (irrigation). In this project, useful water filling capacity is 2009 HMM , total water filling capacity is 2727 cubic meter , surface area at full water filling level is likely to be 10440 hectares.

These districts will benefit

269 villages of Dantewada, Bijapur, Sukma districts will get great benefit from the multipurpose Bodhghat Dam Project. While Indravati-Mahanadi Interlinking Project will expand irrigation facilities in many villages of Kanker district. Both the projects will be an important step towards making Bastar region developed, self-reliant and proficient .
