There was an encounter between security personnel and Naxalites in the South Bastar region of Chhattisgarh late on Thursday January 16, 2025 evening. It is reported that 12 Naxalites were killed in this. Earlier in the day, there was an encounter with Naxalites in Bijapur district as well.
An encounter took place between security personnel and Naxalites on late Thursday January 16, 2025 in the forests of Pujari Kanker and Marudbaka of Usur block of Bijapur district. According to sources, security forces have killed 12 Naxalites in the encounter. The soldiers are running a big operation against the Naxalites of three districts on the border of Bijapur and Telangana. On Thursday January 16 , 2025 , a joint team of security personnel went out on an anti-Naxal operation. Firing started at around 9 am in the forest of South Bijapur. The officer said that intermittent firing is still going on, further information is awaited.
According to sources, after the return of the police force, it will be completely clear how many Naxalites have been killed. The soldiers will reach the district headquarters with the bodies of the Naxalites. After this, these bodies will be identified. It is being told that about one thousand soldiers are involved in this Naxal operation. Apart from Sukma, Dantewada DRG, CRPF soldiers are also involved in the joint operation. The soldiers have surrounded the Naxalites from all sides. The Naxalites, alarmed by this, started firing. The soldiers are giving a befitting reply by taking charge of the front. It is being said that the Naxalites have suffered heavy losses in this operation. Bastar IG P Sundarraj is leading this Naxal operation.
A police officer said that District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel from three districts, five battalions of CRPF’s special jungle warfare unit Cobra (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) and 229th battalion of CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) are involved in the operation. On January 12, five Naxalites including two women were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Maddeed police station area of Bijapur.
Police had said that in their biggest attack on security forces in Chhattisgarh in two years, Naxalites blew up a vehicle using an improvised explosive device weighing 60 to 70 kg in Bijapur district earlier this month, killing eight security personnel and their civilian driver.
