Raipur: Chakradhar Samaroh connects us with the golden memories of the past and is a great resolve to cherish our invaluable heritage. This festival is a symbol of the dream that Raja Chakradhar Singh had seen from the land of Raigarh to take art and culture to the new generation. Governor Ramen Deka on Wednesday August 27, 2025 addressed the program by inaugurating the 40th Chakradhar Samaroh organised in Raigarh district.

During this, he perforemd the Puja of Lord Ganpati and paid obeisance to the music emperor Raja Chakradhar Singh by remembering his virtues.

Governor Deka said that we are celebrating the golden journey of 25 years of Chhattisgarh as a silver jubilee and during this time, the contribution of Chakradhar Samaroh is leading in enriching the culture of Chhattisgarh. Governor Deka said that there is a very deep connection between Assam and Chhattisgarh and during the British period, people from this state went to Assam. He said that the efforts made by Srimanta Shankardev for the preservation of literature and art in Assam, the same efforts were made by Maharaj Chakradhar from the land of Raigarh. Governor told that the award will be given in the memory of Raja Chakradhar Singh in Assam.

The Governor said that the land of Raigarh is a priceless heritage of Indian classical art and culture. The mark of the Raigarh Gharana is not only in the country but all over the world. Raja Chakradhar Singh gave new heights to Kathak dance and gave a new direction to music and dance through his creations Nartan Sarvasva, Talatoy Nidhi and Raga Ratna Manjusha.

He said that art awakens the sensibilities within us and makes life beautiful. When people are getting away from culture in the race of modernity, such events keep us connected to our roots. The Governor said that as soon as we take the name of Raigarh, we see the sweetness of music, the rhythm of dance and the colours of art in our mind. This is the land where the shehnai of Bismillah Khan, the flute of Hariprasad Chaurasia and the voices of great personalities of the literary world including Pt. Jasraj have been resonating. On this special occasion, he gave his best wishes to the people of Raigarh for preserving and taking forward this great tradition.

On the occasion of the inauguration of the 40th Chakradhar Festival, Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that the biggest strength of Indian culture is its unity in diversity. He said that since ancient times, genres like music, dance and literature have flourished under the patronage of kings and these traditions have given India new heights.

Paying tribute to Raja Chakradhar Singh, he said that when only Jaipur and Banaras gharanas were famous in Kathak, he enriched Indian culture by establishing Raigarh gharana. Shekhawat said that today this ceremony is a proud occasion to remember his personality and work.

He said that under the able and strong leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chhattisgarh is getting rid of the Naxal affacted image and the state is now making a new identity in the field of culture and tourism.

Union Minister said that the state which was once seen as backward while battling Naxalism, is today making a mark at the global level due to its folk arts and tourist places. Union Culture and Tourism Minister Shekhawat said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is going through a period of cultural renaissance. Our folk arts, folk dances and folk traditions are being preserved and strengthened again. Shekhawat expressed confidence that Raigarh will be filled with cultural colours for the next ten days and artists from India and abroad will make this historic event more grand through their art.

Finance Minister O P Choudhary said that concrete efforts are being made to get the Chakradhar Festival recognised at the national level. Along with this, development work is continuously gaining momentum in Raigarh, due to which the cultural and social identity of this place is getting stronger. Finance Minister Choudhary said that the work of continuously developing the major centres of faith, tourist places in Chhattisgarh is being done with the support of the Central Government. He said that with the support of the Union Minister, special funds have been allocated for many development works including the Bhoramdev Temple.

Rajya Sabha MP Devendra Pratap Singh extended his heartfelt wishes to everyone on the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. He said that the guests who came from Delhi today have made the Chakradhar Festival dignified. Singh said that Music Emperor Raja Chakradhar Singh gave a new identity to Kathak dance.

He gave prestige to the Raigarh Gharana through proper training and established it on the international platform. He specifically mentioned that taking Kathak dance to such heights by a Gond tribal king will always be remembered as a golden chapter in history.

Raigarh MP Radheshyam Rathia said that this grand event is increasing the prestige of Raigarh further and the cultural heritage here is getting a new identity.

On the occasion of Chakradhar Festival, Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu, Agriculture Minister and District In-Charge Minister Ramvichar Netam, Culture, Religious Trust and Religious Affairs Minister Rajesh Agrawal, Janjgir-Champa Lok Sabha Member of Parliament Mrs Kamlesh Jangde, Mahasamund Member of Parliament Roopkumari Choudhary, Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Chunnilal Garasiya, Municipal Corporation Mayor Jivvardhan Chauhan along with other public representatives, officers, employees, eminent citizens and a large number of spectators were present.
