Assam govt bans serving and consumption of beef in hotels, restaurants, public places
Assam : The Himanta Biswa Sarma government of Assam has taken a big decision. The government has banned beef in the entire state. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma gave this information in a press conference today on Thursday , December 4, 2024 .
The purchase and sale of beef has been banned in hotels, restaurants and public places in Assam. Politics has also started after this decision. Assam government minister Piyush Hazarika posted on the social media site ‘X’ and wrote- ‘I challenge the Congress to welcome the Assam government’s decision to ban beef or go and settle in Pakistan.’
Congress MP from Assam Rakibul Hussain had accused the BJP that the party had organised a beef party to woo Muslim voters in Samguri assembly constituency of Nagaon district. Countering this, a few days ago, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said that if the Assam Congress President writes a letter to him demanding a beef ban, he is ready to implement it.
No central law in the country
There is no central law in India on cow slaughter. Different states decide the rules according to themselves. For example, in Haryana, there is a provision of a fine of Rs 1 lakh and 10 years of imprisonment for violating the cow slaughter law. Chhattisgarh is the only state where buffalo meat is banned along with cow slaughter.
