Ashoka University professor Ali Khan Mahmoodabad has been arrested for his comments on ‘Operation Sindoor’ on social media. According to sources, Haryana Police has arrested him from Delhi. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has given a statement in this matter. He has called the police action a ‘legal violation’.
The controversy over the arrest of Professor Ali Khan Mahmoodabad of Ashoka University in Haryana has increased. Ali Khan is accused of making false comments on social media about India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’ against terrorist organizations based in Pakistan and PoK. AIMIM has opposed Khan’s arrest and has raised questions on the action.
Ali Khan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Mahmudabad Private University. He has been arrested for his comments on Operation Sindoor. Professor Khan was detained in Delhi after a complaint was filed against him by a member of the BJP Yuva Morcha. The Haryana State Women’s Commission also issued a notice to him in connection with the comment.
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has issued a statement in this matter and has strongly condemned the arrest of the professor. Owaisi wrote on X, this is completely condemnable. If this is true, then the Haryana Police has allegedly violated the legal process by arresting him from Delhi. This is like targeting a person for his opinion. His post was neither anti-national nor anti-women. Haryana Police took action only on the complaint of a BJP worker.
What are the allegations against Mahmudabad?
Earlier, according to the Facebook post included in the notice of the Women’s Commission, Mahmudabad said, I am happy that so many right-wingers are praising Colonel Sofia Qureshi, but perhaps they can also demand with equal force that Indian citizens who are victims of mob violence, arbitrary bulldozer action and BJP’s hate politics should also be protected.
The Women’s Commission said in the notice that his comments undermined women officers in the Indian Armed Forces and promoted communal discord. Mahmudabad said in response to the notice, his comments on Operation Sindoor and the women officers involved in it are against him.
Ashoka University’s statement…
Ashoka University said in an official statement, it has come to our notice that Professor Ali Khan Mahmoodabad has been taken into police custody this morning. We are gathering information related to this matter. The university will fully cooperate with the police and the local administration and provide assistance in the investigation.
What did the professor say in clarification…
The professor said, the screenshot attached with the notice makes it clear that my comment has been completely misunderstood and the commission has no jurisdiction in this matter. The Women’s Commission is a body that performs an important function. However, the summons issued to me does not highlight how my post is contrary to women’s rights or laws.
