Air India Tragedy: 11 people have been identified so far through DNA testing; death toll in Ahmedabad accident reaches 270

DNA tests are being conducted to identify the people who lost their lives in the Ahmedabad plane crash. Government doctors said that so far 11 people have been identified through DNA tests. According to officials, after the DNA testing process is completed, the bodies will be handed over to their relatives.

241 passengers died after Air India’s AI-171 plane going from Gujarat to London crashed. In this accident that took place in Meghnanigar area near Ahmedabad airport, many more people present there were also injured after the plane fell on the hostel. The death toll has increased to 270. Most of the bodies have been burnt, so challenges are being faced in identifying the dead. DNA tests are being conducted to identify the people who lost their lives in this tragic accident.

So far, 11 people have been identified through DNA tests. Government doctors informed on Saturday June 14, 2025 that the DNA of the deceased will be matched with their relatives.

Apart from DNA tests, counseling to deal with mental trauma

Additional Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital, Dr. Rajneesh Patel said that so far DNA samples of 11 deceased have been matched. The body of one of the deceased has been handed over to the family. He said that two more bodies will be handed over to the relatives today. Dr. Patel said that DNA testing is a slow process and it should be done carefully. An official said that counseling facilities are also being provided to the victim families to deal with the mental trauma.

Dead bodies are being identified through DNA samples

Officials said that the dead are being identified by matching DNA samples. After this process is completed, the bodies will be handed over to their relatives. Officials said that the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Service (AFES) has also recovered a body along with some body parts from the accident site in Meghnanigar area in the last 24 hours.

Additional Chief Fire Officer Jayesh Khadiya said that firefighters are helping forensic and aviation experts in the investigation at the accident site. They found some body parts from the debris of the canteen on Friday June 13, 2025 , while a body was found on Saturday June 14, 2025 morning.

Crane will be used to bring down the tail fin


Khadia further said that the tail fin of the aircraft is stuck on the damaged building of the canteen, and the help of a crane is being taken to bring it down. He said, ‘After the Air India officials reach the spot, we will start the work of bringing down the tail fin from the building.’

Air India will immediately give Rs 25 lakh to the casualties


Air India said that it will make an interim payment of Rs 25 lakh in addition to the compensation of Rs 1 crore to the family of the deceased and the injured.

Tata Sons announced compensation of Rs 1 crore


Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran expressed grief over this terrible accident and said – We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident related to Air India Flight 171. The grief we are feeling at this time cannot be expressed in words. Our condolences and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones and those who are injured.

Tata Group will give an assistance amount of Rs 1 crore to the families of each person who lost their lives in this tragedy. We will also bear the medical expenses of the injured and ensure that they get all the necessary care and support. Additionally, we will provide assistance in the construction of the hostel of BJ Medical. We stand with the affected families and communities in this unimaginable time.

270 people killed in Ahmedabad plane crash

A total of 270 people have died in the Air India plane crash so far. The 230 passengers on board the plane included 217 adults, 11 children and two babies. Which included 169 Indian citizens, 53 British, seven Portuguese and one Canadian citizen. 241 people as well as 12 crew members of the plane have also died in this accident.

Only one person has miraculously survived. At the same time, 29 other people present in the medical hostel and nearby at the spot have also died and many other injured are undergoing treatment.
