Sources said that this will be a preliminary information meeting. In this meeting, officials will give information about two important bills. These bills are – Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill and Union Territory (Laws) Amendment Bill. The purpose of both these bills is to make necessary changes to hold simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. This step is part of a long-standing promise made by the BJP.
The number of committee members was increased
Last week these bills were introduced in the Lok Sabha. On Friday, the last day of the winter session, they were sent to the parliamentary committee. The number of members of this committee has been increased from 31 to 39, as many political parties had expressed their desire to join it.
P.P. Choudhary made the chairman of the committee
BJP MP P.P. Chaudhary has been made the chairman of this committee. Apart from this, former Union ministers Anurag Thakur, Purushottam Rupala, Manish Tiwari and many first term MPs like Priyanka Gandhi, Bansuri Swaraj and Sambit Patra are also members of this committee. The committee has 27 members from Lok Sabha and 12 members from Rajya Sabha.
