28 members of Gyanesh Kumar Gupta’s family in Vijay Nagar Colony of Agra are doctors. His father Dr. Subodh Kumar Gupta has retired from the post of Chief Medical Officer. Mother Satyavati Gupta teaches yoga. Gyanesh Kumar’s elder daughter Medha Rupam is currently the District Magistrate of Kasganj district. His second daughter Abhishri is an IRS officer.

The birthplace of the new Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar Gupta is Agra. His father Dr. Subodh Kumar Gupta and mother Satyavati Gupta live in Vijay Nagar Colony. His father has retired from the post of Chief Medical Officer. Due to his father being in a government job, he kept getting transferred and Gyanesh Kumar got his education from Gorakhpur, Lucknow and Kanpur. Most of the people in Gyanesh’s family are doctors but he chose a different path.

Gyanesh Kumar’s family is originally from Midhakur but his father came from there and settled in Agra. The last house in the street near Punjab National Bank belongs to Subodh Kumar Gupta. Currently his parents are in Delhi.

Gyanesh was talented since childhood. He was a topper in Queens College, Varanasi. He did his 12th from Calvin Talukdar College, Lucknow, and topped here too. After this, he did B.Tech in Civil Engineering from IIT Kanpur. After this, he went to Delhi to prepare for the civil service examination. There he also worked in HUDCO for a year. In 1988, he passed the civil service examination and became an ISS officer of Kerala cadre. He got his first appointment as DM in Thiruvananthapuram. He has also done post graduation in economics from Harvard University.

During the UPA government’s tenure, he was the Joint Defense Secretary in the Ministry of Defense from 2007 to 2012. In 2014, he was the Resident Commissioner of the Kerala Government in Delhi. Amidst the violent activities of the Islamic State, he played an important role in evacuating 183 Indians from Iraq. These included 46 Malayali nurses trapped in Irbil.

Subodh Kumar Gupta’s neighbours say that 28 members of his family in Vijay Nagar Colony are doctors. Mother Satyavati still teaches yoga. Gyanesh Kumar’s elder daughter Medha Rupam is currently the District Magistrate of Kasganj district. Her husband Manish Bansal is also an IAS and both are IAS of 2014 batch. His second daughter Abhishri is an IRS officer and her husband Akshay Labroo is an IAS. Their son Arnav is studying. Gyanesh’s brother Manish Kumar is an IRS officer and sister Roli runs a school in Indore, her husband Upendra Jain is an IPS. Gyanesh retired in January last year while working as Secretary in the Ministry of Cooperation.

From the removal of Article 370 to the construction of Ram Mandir, he played an important role
Whether it was the decision to remove Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir while serving as the Secretary in the Home Ministry or working as a member of the Ram Mandir construction committee in Ayodhya. Senior IAS officer Gyanesh Kumar, the new Chief Election Commissioner, has played a major role in implementing the decisions of the Central Government with his ability. He was appointed by the Central Government as a representative in the Shri Ram Mandir Teerth Kshetra Trust. He was also in the jury for the selection of the idol of Lord Shri Ram in the child form.
