In a State Foundation Day letter, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai recognised Kar’s work to bring Chhattisgarhis together abroad and help students pursue higher education.
Raipur: When Ganesh Kumar Kar received a letter from Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, he held it up in a video he shared on social media and thanked the Chief Minister. The letter, written on the occasion of State Foundation Day, traced Kar’s journey from Dantewada to the United States. It also recognised what he had done along the way to keep Chhattisgarh’s language and traditions part of everyday life for families living abroad.
For a family living far from Chhattisgarh, hearing a familiar dialect or celebrating a festival with others who grew up observing it can make an unfamiliar place feel more like home. Sai singled out Kar’s efforts through the North America Chhattisgarh Association (NACHA), which brings together people with roots in the state. Gatherings give families a place to speak their language, observe festivals together and pass on customs that children growing up overseas might otherwise encounter only on visits to India.
The Chief Minister also praised the Swadeshi Mela organised by Kar. While NACHA gives Chhattisgarhi families a place to come together, the fair brings Indian products, art and traditions to a wider audience. Sai linked the initiative to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on pursuing development while preserving cultural heritage.
The letter also looked back towards home through Udaan, Kar’s initiative to support students seeking higher education and scholarships. Sai highlighted the work as an example of how someone who has built a life overseas can help young people in Chhattisgarh pursue opportunities of their own.
Writing about the state’s development goals for 2047, Sai said Chhattisgarhis living overseas could contribute their knowledge and experience. He asked Kar to pass on his State Foundation Day greetings to others in the diaspora. By sharing the letter publicly, Kar gave those greetings a wider audience. It was a small echo of the work the letter recognised, bringing people from Chhattisgarh into the same conversation even when they live far apart.
