New Delhi: Door-to-door population enumeration for Census 2027 will begin on January 25 and continue until February 28 under the schedule notified on Friday, October 30, 2026. Residents will have an online self-enumeration option beforehand.
Separate schedules—not exclusion from the Census
Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Uttarakhand will follow an earlier timetable: self-enumeration opens November 16, 2026, and household visits begin December 1.
Enumeration has already been completed in Ladakh and specified snowbound areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Manipur’s exercise remains deferred because of ethnic violence.
These exceptions therefore do not mean that all the listed states and territories are excluded from Census 2027.
