Korba: Korba is set for a large-scale illumination on Thursday evening as the district joins the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan with an ambitious plan to light 5.50 lakh earthen lamps under the ‘Aashirwad Ka Diya’ initiative. here on Thursday .September 17, 2026 .

The programme marks the beginning of the month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, being conducted from September 17 to October 17, with the lamp-lighting initiative linked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday and 25 years of his tenure in public office as head of government.

The Korba district administration has identified 11 major locations across urban bodies and Janpad areas for collective lamp-lighting. Alongside these public programmes, households are also being encouraged to light diyas, with distribution planned through ration shops, Arogya Mandirs and gas centres.

Of the 5.50 lakh lamps planned across the district, 1,17,700 diyas are scheduled to be lit at the 11 principal venues.

51,000 Diyas at Ghanta Ghar

The largest gathering will be held at Ghanta Ghar Chowk in Korba at 7 pm, where 51,000 diyas are scheduled to be illuminated.

Korba MLA and Chhattisgarh Industry Minister Lakhan Lal Dewangan will participate in the main programme. The minister had earlier purchased earthen lamps from local sellers and appealed to citizens to join the initiative.

At other major venues, 11,000 diyas each are planned at Radhasagar Talab and Shiv Mandir premises in Katghora, Gajra Ground in Banki Mongra, and Radha Sagar Talab and Pushp Vatika in Dipka.

Another 5,100 lamps each are proposed at Jambahar in Korba Janpad, Dhelwadih in Katghora Janpad, Hanuman Mandir and Trigun Talab in Chhuikala (Chhuri), the Pali Janpad office premises, the PM Shri school premises in Kartala Janpad and the Eklavya campus in Podi-Uproda. The Nagar Panchayat Pali office and Shiv Mandir premises will have 3,100 diyas.

The district has also set a target of achieving complete household participation in 25 gram panchayats.

From Birthday Observance to Public Campaign

The Aashirwad Ka Diya initiative forms part of a wider campaign combining service activities, welfare outreach and public participation. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai had earlier appealed to people to light a diya in their homes and courtyards at 7 pm on September 17.

In Korba, the administration has appointed nodal officers at district, block, cluster and panchayat levels to coordinate the programme.

Photographs from the principal venues and household events are also scheduled to be documented and shared through designated campaign hashtags and frames.

The scale of Korba’s programme makes the diya the central visual element of Thursday’s observance — from the 51,000 lamps planned at Ghanta Ghar Chowk to diyas being lit at homes across the district.
