Women lead the charge with five titles as India surpasses its previous best boxing performance; overall tally reaches 11 medals

Glasgow :India scripted history in the boxing arena at the 23rd Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, producing its finest-ever performance by winning a record seven gold medals and finishing with an impressive haul of 11 medals.

The spectacular campaign was spearheaded by India’s women boxers, who captured five gold medals, while the men’s team added two more titles to underline the country’s growing dominance in international boxing.

The achievement eclipsed India’s previous best performance at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, where the country had won seven medals, including three gold.

“This is the best-ever boxing campaign for India at the Commonwealth Games, reflecting the growing depth and consistency of Indian boxing,” officials associated with the contingent said after the competition concluded.

Women Boxers Lead India’s Golden Charge

Reigning World Champion Jaismine Lamboria (57kg) delivered a commanding performance to defend India’s supremacy, defeating Northern Ireland’s experienced Michaela Walsh by unanimous decision in the final.

Asian Games medallist Preeti Pawar (54kg) opened India’s golden run with a convincing 5-0 victory over Canada’s Scarlett Delgado, displaying excellent tactical discipline and precision throughout the contest.

Asian champion Priya Ghanghas (60kg) overcame an early deficit to defeat Canada’s Marie-Bathoul Al-Ahmadieh 4-1, while Sakshi Chaudhary (51kg) and Arundhati Choudhary (70kg) completed India’s remarkable clean sweep of women’s gold medals.

Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain (75kg) settled for silver, adding another medal to India’s impressive tally after a spirited campaign.

“The crowd support was brilliant, it really pumped me,” said gold medallist Priya Ghanghas, crediting the enthusiastic Indian supporters inside the arena.

Men Add Two More Golds

The men’s team also produced an outstanding performance.

Sachin Siwach (60kg) and Ankush Panghal (70kg) clinched gold medals, while Jadumani Singh (55kg) and Narender Berwal (+90kg) finished with silver medals after hard-fought finals.

The combined effort gave India seven golds, four silvers and a total of 11 medals, establishing the country’s most successful boxing campaign in Commonwealth Games history.

A Landmark Achievement for Indian Boxing

Indian boxers enjoyed overwhelming support from the crowd, with chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “India, India” echoing across the SEC Arena in Glasgow.

The record-breaking performance reflects India’s sustained investment in boxing and the emergence of a new generation of athletes capable of competing consistently at the highest level.

The Glasgow campaign is expected to provide a major confidence boost ahead of upcoming international championships and Olympic qualification events.
