Police examining complaint and viral content; PM Modi appeals for guidance, says ‘misguided children should be forgiven’
New Delhi: A 15-year-old girl, who is purportedly the same person seen in a viral video using abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, has issued a public apology, claiming she was influenced by others and deeply regrets her actions.
The apology, released through a video on social media, surfaced after a police complaint was filed against her. Prime Look could not independently verify the authenticity of the apology video.
In the video, the teenager said she had accompanied friends to Connaught Place in July, where she encountered a group allegedly using abusive language against the Prime Minister.
“They influenced me and encouraged me to repeat those words, and I did,” the girl said, adding that the video circulating online was not uploaded by her.
Expressing remorse, she apologised to the nation and described the incident as a serious mistake.
“I am extremely embarrassed and ashamed. I am not able to look anyone in the eye. I appeal to everyone to forgive me. I am only 15 years old. This is my first and last mistake, and I will never repeat such an act again,” she said.
PM Modi Calls for Compassion and Guidance
Reacting to the controversy in a late-night video message, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was hurt that abusive remarks were directed not only at him but also at his late mother during the protest.
At the same time, he urged people to respond with compassion rather than anger.
“It pains me that not only I, but my late mother was also subjected to filthy abuses. The misguided children should be forgiven and guided on the right path,” the Prime Minister said.
Police Examination Underway
The apology video emerged as police continued examining complaints related to the incident.
According to officials, the Delhi Police is reviewing the contents of a Zero FIR that was initially registered in Noida on July 29 before deciding on further legal action. The FIR was subsequently transferred to Delhi as the alleged offence took place in the national capital.
Earlier, Delhi Police had registered an FIR at the Special Cell Police Station regarding the circulation of the controversial content. Authorities also issued notices to social media platform X, seeking removal of the material and preservation of electronic records as part of the investigation.
The police have not yet announced any final action, and the inquiry remains in progress.
