    Raipur: Chhattisgarh is taking significant strides towards strengthening its scientific and technological ecosystem, with the state government accelerating the development of modern science infrastructure aimed at fostering innovation, research and experiential learning.

    A high-level review meeting of the Department of Science and Technology was held at Mahanadi Bhawan, Atal Nagar, Nava Raipur on Friday July 31, 2026 , where Principal Secretary Sonmoni Borah reviewed the progress of the state’s flagship projects, including the proposed Science City, Regional Science Centre (RSC), Artificial Intelligence (AI) Gallery and Science Parks planned across various districts.

    The meeting also assessed preparations for the 22nd All India Conference of Heads of Science Museums and Science Centres, which Raipur is scheduled to host during 2026-27.

    Addressing senior officials, Borah underlined the importance of creating scientific infrastructure that serves not only as educational facilities but also as centres of innovation and public engagement.

    “Modern science infrastructure must inspire innovation, scientific thinking and curiosity among students and the public alike,”Sonmoni Borah said , adding that the state aims to

    create world-class institutions capable of nurturing future scientists, innovators and entrepreneurs.

    Science City and AI Gallery Receive Special Focus

    During the review, officials presented updates on the proposed Science City in Raipur, the Regional Science Centre, the upcoming AI Gallery, and district-level Science Parks.

    These projects are envisioned as interactive learning destinations where students, researchers and visitors can experience science through hands-on exhibits, immersive technologies and practical demonstrations.

    The AI Gallery, in particular, is expected to introduce visitors to emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics and digital innovation while encouraging scientific curiosity among young learners.

    National Science Conference Preparations Reviewed

    The meeting also reviewed preparations for the 22nd All India Conference of Heads of Science Museums and Science Centres, which will be organised in collaboration with the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

    Officials were instructed to convene a joint coordination meeting with NCSM at the earliest to finalise planning, logistics and technical arrangements for the national-level event.

    The conference is expected to bring together scientists, museum directors, educators and policymakers from across the country, providing Chhattisgarh with a platform to showcase its expanding scientific infrastructure.

    No Compromise on Quality or Timelines

    Reviewing the pace of implementation, Principal Secretary Borah directed all departments to complete every project within the stipulated timeframe while maintaining the highest standards of quality.

    “There should be no compromise on quality or timelines in implementing Science City, AI Gallery and other key projects,” Borah instructed, emphasising that public investment in science infrastructure must deliver long-term value for students and society.

    He further stressed that science awareness programmes should accompany infrastructure development so that citizens actively benefit from these facilities.

    “Science and technology-based public awareness programmes and STEM education should be expanded in a structured and time-bound manner, “Principal Secretary said, noting that scientific temper is essential for achieving sustainable development and technological progress.

    Scientists and Officials Participate

    Scientists from the Chhattisgarh Council of Science and Technology (CCOST) and the Regional Science Centre (RSC), Raipur, along with senior departmental officers, participated in the review meeting. They presented progress reports on ongoing projects and discussed implementation strategies to ensure efficient execution.

    The meeting concluded with directions to strengthen inter-departmental coordination and closely monitor project milestones so that Chhattisgarh’s ambitious science initiatives are completed as scheduled.
