PM Modi receives a grand welcome in Israel; Netanyahu hugs him at the airport, receives a guard of honor

India-Israel relations are now very strong and at a strategic level. The two countries established diplomatic relations in 1992. Since then, cooperation has steadily increased in areas such as trade, defense, technology, and agriculture.
Tel Aviv: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Tel Aviv on a two-day visit to Israel. He was given a grand welcome at the airport. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara personally welcomed PM Modi at the airport.
Netanyahu broke protocol to welcome him at the airport. PM Modi was given a guard of honor at the airport. This is PM Modi’s arrival in Israel after nine years. He last visited Israel in 2017.
PM Modi will address the Israeli Parliament, the Knesset, today. He will visit Jerusalem. This visit is very important for relations between the two countries.
After meeting with Netanyahu at the airport, PM Modi will address the Israeli Parliament, the Knesset. He will be the first Indian Prime Minister to address the Israeli Parliament. PM Modi has arrived in Israel at Netanyahu’s invitation. During this period, PM Modi will also meet Israeli President Isaac Herzog.
Following the news of PM Modi’s visit to Israel and his address to Parliament, the Israeli opposition has threatened to boycott PM Modi’s address. Israeli Parliament Speaker Amir Ohana has responded by saying he will fill the vacant seats in the Knesset with former MPs. He will hold bilateral talks with Israeli PM Netanyahu in the evening. Netanyahu will also host a dinner for PM Modi.
PM Modi will visit the Holocaust Memorial on February 26th and pay tribute. Discussions will be held between India and Israel on updating defense cooperation, trade, technology, and security agreements. An MoU on security and defense cooperation may also be signed during this visit.
It should be noted that India and Israel’s relationship is very strong and at a strategic level. The two countries established diplomatic relations in 1992. Since then, cooperation has steadily increased in areas such as trade, defense, technology, and agriculture. Israel is a major defence partner of India and trade between the two countries is worth several billion dollars.
