Chief Minister directed top officials to take strict action against tax evasion in the review meeting of GST department

Historic increase in GST collection in Chhattisgarh: Top in the country with 18% growth rate

Raipur: Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Wednesday July 2, 2025 held a review meeting of the Commercial Tax (GST) Department at Mahanadi Bhawan . He got detailed information about the work and revenue collection of the department and directed to work on measures to increase tax collection.

Chief Minister Sai said that the amount of tax is used in the development work of the country and the state, so everyone should pay tax honestly that too on time . CM Sai said that strict action should be taken against those who evade tax (GST) and recovery of tax should be ensured from them.

During the meeting, the officials informed that in the financial year 2024-25, the state received a total tax revenue of Rs 23,448 crore from GST and VAT, which is 38% of the total tax revenue of the state. Chhattisgarh has achieved a GST growth rate of 18%, which is the highest in the country.

In the meeting, Finance and Commercial Tax (GST) Minister O.P. Choudhary shared departmental information. Chief Minister Sai appreciated the efforts made by the department for GST collection and said that continuous efforts should be made to increase the collection in accordance with the rules. He also discussed in detail with the departmental officials on the cases of tax evasion and measures to deal with them.

Chief Minister Sai directed to take strict action against those who take undue advantage by using fake bills, double bookkeeping system and wrong tax rates. Praising the innovative initiatives of the department, he said that the average time limit for GST registration has been reduced from 13 days to 2 days.

In the meeting, the officials gave information about the major actions taken recently by the GST department and the recovery of tax evasion amount. It was told in the meeting that the actions taken by the department are continuously increasing the tax revenue of the government.

It is worth mentioning that GST offices have been established in all 33 districts of the state, due to which the work of tax collection and GST related services is being done with transparency and timeliness.

Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Subodh Kumar Singh, Secretary to the Chief Minister ukesh Kumar Bansal, Secretary to the Chief Minister Rahul Bhagat and Commissioner of Commercial Tax Pushpendra Meena along with senior officers were present in the meeting.
