West Bengal BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar was detained yesterday evening for protesting against the Kolkata gang rape case. Sukanta Majumdar was released from Kolkata’s Lal Bazar police station this morning. After his release, Sukanta Majumdar said, “I was arrested for protesting. After this, the police told me that they would release me after I sign a bail bond, but I refused to sign and I stayed at the Lal Bazar police station with 32 activists. When the government’s police is sleeping, someone has to wake up. BJP is doing this. If I have to be arrested a thousand times for Bengal, I am ready for it.”
TMC MLA’s harsh words
The politics of Bengal is heating up over the case of gang rape of a student in a Kolkata college. After the RG Kar Medical College incident, the ruling Mamata Banerjee government is once again under attack from opposition parties on the issue of women’s safety. At the same time, the harsh words of TMC leaders are creating more problems for the party. After Kalyan Banerjee, party MLA Madan Mitra has also given an insensitive statement regarding the incident and has blamed the victim for the rape incident. Mitra said on Saturday on this incident that ‘If the student had told someone where she was going, had taken some friends with her, then this incident would not have happened. The people who committed the crime took advantage of the situation.’
SIT will investigate
BJP and Left parties protested on Saturday against this incident of gang rape that took place on June 25. According to media reports, BJP is preparing for a statewide movement on this issue. BJP has also formed a four-member committee to investigate the matter. Meanwhile, CM Mamata Banerjee has formed an SIT for investigation. The National Commission for Women has also written a letter to the Chief Secretary of Bengal demanding immediate action in this case of gang rape. The police have now also arrested the college guard in this case.
