The central government said that US officials have identified 487 more illegal Indian immigrants living there and they will be sent back to India soon. Meanwhile, India has expressed concern over the possibility of mistreatment of Indians being deported. Regarding the deportation of illegal Indian immigrants from the US, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that the External Affairs Minister (EAM) has informed about the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) shared by US officials. Vikram Misri said that the Foreign Minister pointed out that this process has been going on for a long time. However, mistreatment of deported immigrants is a serious issue, which we have raised with US officials.
Addressing a press conference, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that the US has informed India about 487 potential Indian citizens who have been issued expulsion orders. He said that we have made it clear to the US administration that no inhumane treatment of deported Indians will be tolerated. If we get information about any kind of misbehavior, we will immediately raise it at a high level.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that the process of deportation is not new. This issue was discussed by External Affairs Minister Jaishankar in Parliament yesterday. I will not accept describing India as an uncooperative country. If any country in the world wants to accept its citizens back, it needs assurance that whoever is coming back is a citizen of India, there are issues of legitimacy associated with it, there are issues of security associated with it. In the recent talks, when we asked the US for details about the potential returnees. We have been told that the final deportation orders are for 487 Indian nationals. On the use of military aircraft to deport illegal Indian immigrants from the US, he said that the deportation that happened day before yesterday was different from the process that has been going on for many years and is of a slightly different nature.
Action should be taken against gangs promoting illegal migration
Apart from this, the Foreign Secretary stressed the need for concrete action against gangs and networks promoting illegal migration. He said that we need to take action on the ecosystem present in the entire system, which promotes illegal immigration.
